Founded in 1950, Midwest Air Filter, Inc. has provided air filtration
products to the Commercial, Industrial, Institutional and Residential HVAC
marketplace for 53 continuous years.
We stock filters in our 5 locations throughout Michigan and Indiana, and
fabricate some special size products to assure prompt delivery at
competitive prices.
We are members of the National Air Filtration Association (NAFA) and
employ 8 NAFA Certified Air Filtration Specialist (CAFS), one IAQA Certified
Mold Remediator (CMR) on our staff to address the applications and issues of
Indoor Air Quality. We are a member of American Society of Heating,
Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and are current with
our industry issues, standards, research and requirements.

The roots
of Midwest Air Filter, Inc. go back to the fall of 1950. Ross A Mutersbaugh moved to Lansing, MI to start Air Filter Service
Company, after he sold another Filter Company in Detroit, MI. His
son, Stanley W. Mutersbaugh came to the company in 1954, and
acquired ownership in 1959. Stan and his partner, Neal DeVries
incorporated the business in 1966, as Midwest Air Filter, Inc.
At that time the major lines were Continental Air Filter,
Owens-Corning, Dust Stop and Research Products.
In
1978 the company opened a branch office and warehouse in Grand
Rapids, MI. Richard Alban, the former general manager, is
credited with transforming the company into the computer age in
the early 1980's. Richard still stops in to ensure that
the system is running efficiently.
In
1992, William R. Down, then a regional manager for Airguard
Industries, Inc., acquired control and is currently President of
the company. Bill brings with him over 28 years of air
filtration expertise. He is a member of
ASHRAE, and served on the Board of Directors
NAFA and is
a Certified Air Filtration Specialist (CAFS). When it comes to
questions on Air Filtration, Bill is your expert.
A
branch office and warehouse was opened up in Kalamazoo in 1996
and the Fort Wayne, Indiana Operation in 1999. An additional sales office was
in Detroit, MI in 2000. In 2001 we have managed to go
on-line to ensure that we can bring the highest level of
products, customer service, competitive pricing and technical
knowledge for our customers in and outside our regional base.
