Spray Booth Filter Information

Based on the available filter performance information, refinishers could be required to use a paint over spray filter that is demonstrated by the filter vendor, based on test data, to have an overall coating over spray penetration of no more than 1 percent of the coating that reaches the filter, or an over spray capture efficiency of no less than 99 percent. Shops would be expected to rely on penetration and capture information supported by test data provided by the filter manufacturer. Based on previous discussions with EPA, the rule would likely not specify exactly how filter efficiency is determined; but the rule could, if needed, specify that the method follow a modification of American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air- Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Method 52.1, as currently practiced by the filter industry.
